What do you do when you don’t have a camera in your hand? I would say I’m probably sketching something in my notebook, looking at the sky or searching for opportunities for a good shot! Or sleeping too, ahah.
What did you want to become in your childhood and are you that person today? The only thing I know for sure is that I loved drawing when I was a child. It was early in middle school that I figured out that what I loved doing was art. Throughout the years I discovered architecture and grew passionate about it, and now I’m studying at FAUP, in Porto, which is what I always wanted.

Where did you meet photography or where did photography meet you? I guess I met photography when I was about 16 y.o. For me the photography back then was heavy as a bucket full of mud, inconvenient and weird. Its name was Mamiya RB67. I’ve felt in love with it instantly, funny thing is I still have it.

My name is Parinya VeeraputtaraguI, I am an ordinary 34 year old guy living in Buriram, Thailand. Thank you for the honorific opportunity to be able to share my story today.
What do you do when you don’t have a camera in your hand? I am working as managing director at Kubota tractor authorized dealer showrooms in Satuek, Buriram and part time working on my design projects. At night I usually listen to music and there are 2-3 times a month that I spend at home developing photos, scanning & cropping them, so I can share them on my social networks. Drawing and sketching is another thing I do.

I actually learned on digital but I’ve become obsessed with film for the past 3 years. Now I develop all of my own film in a makeshift darkroom. Where did photography meet you? I grew up happily in Spokane, Washington. Ever since I was a young child I have loved documentary movies and magazines about nature, science, and history. When I was young I wanted to make movies about wild animals and nature. I think what I identified with was the idea of going out into the world and having an adventure.
I have always enjoyed spending time outside and exploring new places. I first started taking photos when I was around 13 years old. I had saved up enough money to buy a point and shoot 35mm. From there I took a photography class in highschool and really started to understand the principles of photography using a 35mm slr, along with how to process and develop black and white film. I studied art in college, but found that while I loved creating and experiencing art, it was not what I wanted to do with my life as a profession. After college I didn’t spend as much time with photography, but I still had a deep desire to explore and learn about the world.

My name is Dennis Konoi and I was born in Finland. I’m 22 years old, I’m a first-year student studying photography in England at the University for the Creative Arts, Rochester.
Where did photography meet you? It stumbled into my life when I was about 14 years old when I got my first digital SLR camera. I just instantly liked it, mostly as a hobby, to take pictures and create memories. This ‘hobby’ of mine went on for a couple of years until 2012 when I started studying photography in Finland for a year. This was the year when I was introduced to the world of analog photography. I was instantly hooked on it.
After my studies, I started out with a 35mm Yashica TL-Electro and bought my own film developing kit and started developing my films in my apartment. Since I didn’t have a darkroom for printing, I had to scan the negatives to publish them on my social-media platforms. The funny thing is, as I was taking snapshots and documenting my life with my Yashica, I was this whole time working without a light meter.

What did you want to become in the childhood? I wanted to be a cinematographer very early in life. I got my first double 8 camera, a Yashica U-Matic 8, at age 10.
What’s been your greatest accomplishment as a photographer so far? The favorite photograph you took, the craziest thing you ever did as a photographer? My favorite moment as a cinematographer was when I received a first and second prize at Swedish Public Relations Society’s yearly short film contest.
Every new shot is my favorite. Every new assignment is the best.
What do you want to achieve? What do you think is the greatest power of photography? To communicate with pictures, moving or still, to give the viewer an emotional experience elucidating the human condition.
What do you carry around in your camera bag? How it affects your process?
When not shooting moving pictures I always carry one of my Leicas. M4-P or M7 for analogue photography (which I prefer) and my Leica M9, or the latest addition, a Leica T which I love. And my iPhone 5 with Lumu software & hardware for setting the correct exposure for the mood I like to communicate, which I previsualize, of each motif.
Therefore, most of the time I work my cameras in manual mode.

Introducing a talented young photographer from London / Hampshire!
Your personal story with photography. I’ve been taking photos as long as I remember, I bought my first digital camera when I was about 12 years old and always had great fun taking quick pics of anything and everything. However my actual passion for photography came a bit later as I progressed to using a DSLR when I was 14, messing about and trying to take more creative photos, I then progressed to working in a photography studio when I was 15, getting some work experience through school and then maintaining a part time job from there on, assisting with weddings and commercial shoots. Since then i’ve been working on all sorts, from shooting products for catalogs, weddings and portraits. But truly in the last year or so as i’ve turned 19 I have found my area of work that I really enjoy, since September 2014 i’ve started shooting on film cameras, almost now completely ditching digital, and mainly shooting portraits and events for a few magazines.
What are you proud of? I think my greatest accomplishment would be getting one of the pictures I took in the summer of 2014 displayed in the Saatchi Gallery in London. It’s a picture of two policeman on horses looking at a block of flats covered in England flags, it isn’t the most skilled photograph, I was just in the right place at the right time.
What do you carry around in your camera bag? I don’t actually own a camera bag! My kit quickly outgrew my bag a few years ago when I upgraded my camera and since then i’ve had to be using my rucksack and some clothing to keep everything from banging into eachother.
The actual contents though are:
- Leica M6 with a Zeiss 50mm planar F2,
- Hasselblad 500c/m with a 80mm F2.8,
- Contax T2,
- Sony A7S with a commlite adapter to use my Canon 16-35 F2.8, Canon 50mm F1.4 and Sigma 85mm F1.4
- Sony microphone for when I shoot video,
- A few rolls of film of different sizes and types,
- Some ND filters for video,
- And my Lumu
If you could give one piece of advice to fellow photographers, what would it be? Always carry a camera with you, even if this is the one on your phone, never regret not having a camera to take that picture and there’s no such thing as too many pictures! You only get better through practice so just get out there and shoot, everyone’s learning.
