Featured photographer #39: Catarina Rebelo
My name is Catarina Rebelo I was born in 1995 and all my life I lived in Oporto, Portugal.
I’m studying photography and I’m going on photography classes to understand a point of view from others, to discover a different world, to “learn” the basics. But for me photography has no rules, even the most out of focus photo can have an unspeakable beauty.
Photography is not a classroom, you don’t have to listen someone telling you how you should take a picture. Take it as you want, take it for yourself, not for your teacher or for your mother or your followers. Do it for you. This is the best advice I can give to anyone.
I can not see me as a photographer (for now at least), photography is more an escape for me. It’s something that I like to do and I embrace it when I need time for myself even when I’ve got company.
In my photos — or in big part of them — I look to take a photo not just for the nice image but for the moment. It has to be special to me; I’m kinda selfish on that.
This particular selection of photos means a lot to me, they are not recent, maybe 1 or 2 years old. But the feelings and emotions that they made me feel by looking at them is so real. I sincerely hope that I’m not the only one.
I love photography since I can remember. But I only got my first camera at the age of 14. It was an Olympus pocket camera. I wish I still got some photos from that time. For 17th birthday my father gave me his old Minolta Dynax 7000i and it’s been my camera ever since. I bought some analog cameras as well, Canon, Nikon, Praktica but none of them has the same sentimental value for me. The Minolta we’ll forever be my first choice. And of course I cannot end this without naming my “awesome” iPhone 5, my loyal everyday partner in crime for always being there in my pocket, ready to shoot.
